Science
Sheridan’s science program prepares students to think as scientists, fosters a life-long love of the natural world, and encourages students to use scientific reasoning throughout their lives. Our science program is based on the National Committee on Science Education Standards and Assessment, builds upon children’s inherent curiosity about the world around them, and helps them construct an accurate concept of how the world works. It includes a balance of the three disciplines of science: earth, physical, and life.
Students construct their understandings by actively engaging in scientific inquiry in the laboratory and in the field. Sheridan’s science teachers also collaborate with the Mountain Campus to forge real-world connections. Students explore the ecology of the wilderness, test water samples for pollution, identify animal and plant species, and develop an understanding of how science appears throughout nature.
Students study science for two or three class periods each week from kindergarten through eighth grade.
