Students in grades 5-8 may participate in interscholastic athletic teams after school. Team sports offerings include soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, cross country, and track and field. There are no tryouts; all students who wish to play are assigned to a team and receive equitable playing time. Most sports have two boys’ teams and two girls’ teams: junior varsity (grades 5-6) and varsity (grades 7-8). Sheridan competes against area schools with similar athletic program philosophies.
Athletics Philosophy Statement
It is the goal of Sheridan Athletics to prepare our young athletes for life ahead. The program allows for students to further explore their sports of interest while teaching them life lessons along the way. The structure of the program promotes independence, resiliency, teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, and fun! Through healthy competition, we value the character growth of our athletes as much as the skill growth. With athletics being an important part of educating the whole child, we encourage all students to participate in sports at Sheridan.
