Kindergarten
Spring Mountain Campus Information
DATES
Monday, May 16 – Tuesday, May 17
DESCRIPTION
The Kindergarten spring trip is full of adventures! The focus of the trip is working together with classmates and adults and getting to know the natural environment at Mountain Campus. Your child and accompanying adult will explore the woods, visit the pond, and play nature bingo. They’ll also investigate trees, plant seeds, and sing songs around a campfire!
WHO PARTICIPATES
For the spring Mountain Campus trip, each student is accompanied by a parent or guardian. Each day there are both group activities and activities designed for one-on-one fun and bonding between each student and their parent/guardian. If this is a challenge for your family due to work commitments, other children, or other extenuating circumstances, please let us know. Our goal is to work together to make sure the trip is successful for each child and each family.
NOTE: ALL attendees must provide evidence of full vaccination (including available boosters) or submit proof a negative COVID-19 rapid test administered the morning of the trip.
GETTING THERE
Families in Grades K-3 drive on their own to Mountain Campus, arriving by 10:45 a.m. on the first day and departing at 11 a.m. on the second day. The address for mobile mapping is 618 Tatum Trail, Luray, VA, and we recommend allotting two hours for the trip, depending on your starting location.
If you do not have access to a car or would like to drive with others and need help with a carpool, please contact the Kindergarten homeroom teachers at kindergarten@sheridanschool.org.
YURT ASSIGNMENTS
Each child and parent/guardian will be assigned to a yurt with three or four other adult/child pairs. The yurts are spacious and equipped with bunk beds and a small changing tent for those who would like privacy while getting dressed. You will receive an online form to complete closer to departure to indicate who will be joining your child on the trip. Yurt assignments are made by teachers based on the social-emotional needs of the class and will be shared with you when you arrive at Mountain Campus.
We recognize we have varying levels of comfort with COVID-19 precautions in our community and for this spring, we are offering an alternative to sharing a yurt overnight with other families. If staying in the yurt is outside your comfort zone due to COVID-19, you and your child may choose to pitch and stay in your own tent. We have tents you can borrow, and you will be asked to indicate your choice on the online form when you share who will be accompanying your child.
REQUIRED FORMS
To participate in Mountain Campus trips, ALL students must have the following three forms on file with us. Please log in to your Magnus Health account through Sheridan Central and confirm that each have been completed
- Camp Horizons form
- COVID-19 Waiver
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccine uploaded into Magnus or an email to School Nurse Caroline Gates advising of the student’s COVID-19 vaccination status
MEDICATION AT MOUNTAIN CAMPUS
For students in Grades K-3, parents/guardians are responsible for bringing and administering all prescription and/or over-the-counter medications while at Mountain Campus. Sheridan will have first aid supplies on hand, but we ask that the adult accompanying your child bring all medications — prescription and over-the-counter — that your child may need during the trip.
PACKING LIST
The packing list below is a guide for what you’ll need during your trip to Mountain Campus. In general, you’ll be participating in active, outdoor adventures that will require comfortable tennis shoes and layers for warm or cool weather. Nights can be chilly, even in May!
