Below, Parents Association co-president Cassandra Alston Cook shares important information for 2019-2020.
The end of the school year is upon us and this week summer vacation begins. On behalf of the Sheridan School Parents Association (PA), thank you to all of our volunteers for giving your time and support. Because of you, we have had a very successful year.
As we approach summer, we encourage all of our parents to think ahead to the fall and consider making time to get involved in our PA events. Even the smallest contribution of time will go a long way. A full list of volunteer opportunities (and the form to let us know you’re willing to lend a hand) can be found here. We’d love to have our major roles filled before September. If you have questions about any PA role or special interest in something you don’t see on the list, please reach out to us at SheridanPA@sheridanschool.org.
2019-2020 PA Leadership
This month marks the end of Johanna Barrero’s one-year term as my PA co-president and I want to take a moment to thank her for all she has done for the Sheridan community. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with Johanna. Sheridan is a better place because of the love she has poured into our community. Thank you, Johanna!
I am pleased to announce that next year Katie Peters will be joining me as the new PA co-president. Katie is the mom of Bobby, 2nd grader, and Adeline, a rising kindergartener. She is looking forward to fostering our community spirit. Thank you, Katie, for taking on this role!
Kudos and gratitude
A big thank you also goes to Cathy Chirikjian and Atlantic McClellan who serve as Vice Presidents. Cathy also served as our Grade Parent Coordinator. We appreciate you filling two roles this year! We’re also grateful to Alex Luzzatto and Mari McDonald who served as our New Family Liaisons.
None of our events would have been possible this year without the talents of so many. We’d like to give a great big THANK YOU to our Fall Fair co-chairs, Sally Battle, Kerstin Canby and Monte Monash. It was well-attended event where everyone delighted in fun and games. Our Fall Book Fair was co-chaired by Frannie Hochberg-Giuffrida and Anne Nellis Richter. Thank you, Frannie and Anne, for all of your hard work. Jason Brown and Carol Pew served as Spring Book Fair co-chairs. Thank you, Jason and Carol, for all that you’ve done serving in this role. A big thank you goes out to our Spring Fling Co-Chairs, Nicole Clark, Debra Mishalove, and Kate Forrester. They gave us a spectacular Spring Fling. Pam Bucklinger pulled together an awesome MLK Day of Service event where we prepared over 500 meals for the homeless. Thank you, Pam! Our activity co-chairs are Rockstars! We hope to continue to provide more opportunities for the Sheridan community to come together. TOGETHER, we do amazing work!
We owe a big thank you to Diana and Josh Oboler for hosting our community at ZavaZone for family night. It brought our community together outside of school and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Our Auction evening was both beautiful and fun due in no small part to the efforts of our Auction leaders — Pam Bucklinger, Nevin Martell, Diana Oboler and Tori Pentecost. Thank you for using your imaginations, connections and ingenuity to make it such a spectacular — and successful — event.
We are also grateful to Jason Brown and Janice Kullman for leading the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) through another year of valuable work. From the fall welcome events for LGBTQ families and families of color to parent education events, a Lao cooking demonstration, the screening of the movie, Step, and establishment of parent affinity groups, all of the volunteers on the DEIC have made a difference in our community this year. Thank you so much for your dedication. We appreciate all the work that you do.
Last but not least, a huge thank you goes out to our amazing grade parents:
