Dear Sheridan Families,
Earlier this morning, I looked at the calendar and counted the days until September 8th, our first day of school. There are 55 days between now and then, and I looked at that number with both delight and resolve. I can’t wait for school to begin, but I also know we still have quite a bit of work to do to prepare.
Last week, after the Town Hall, we asked families to complete a survey and share suggestions and concerns. The survey closed yesterday and we will be incorporating the feedback you shared into our planning for both on-campus and distance learning.
In the meantime, there were a number of themes among the questions you asked so we have put together the FAQs at the link below to provide answers to those you most frequently raised. We also are sharing a timeline for updates to come so you know when to expect additional information or requests.
One question I would like to address right up front is whether we will modify our five-day on-campus plan if COVID-related circumstances in the DMV area change. Our plan to return to school five days a week on campus is based on current guidelines and current health conditions in the DMV area. If those guidelines or health conditions change significantly, we are prepared to shift to distance learning either in part or in full, as required.
The FAQ below is related to our return to on-campus learning, but please be assured we are simultaneously refining the distance learning strategy we will employ if illness in the school or conditions in the broader community make it necessary. An overview of our distance learning plan will be shared with you during the first week of August, along with any recommendations we have for optimizing your technology and space at home to make distance learning easier.
We are in constant contact with health officials and medical experts, including a number in our own community with extensive experience with COVID-19 and the prevention of infection, and with local and national education organizations and schools. If the time comes that we feel we cannot safely bring everyone to campus five days a week, we will make that decision without hesitation.
If you have any questions after reviewing the FAQs and timeline below, please do not hesitate to contact me.
