Sheridan School, an independent K-8 school in Washington, D.C., is seeking energetic outdoor enthusiasts to serve as counselors for our Spring season at our remote campus in Luray, VA.
Our “Mountain Campus” sits on 130 acres, mostly wooded, and features a yurt village, dining hall, nature center, two residences, a team building course, zipline, rock wall, high and medium ropes course, a small pond, and a network of trails.
Founded in 1927, Sheridan is a progressive school with no more than 230 students that offers a joyful, intimate K-8 educational experience where mutual trust and positivity creates a healthy culture and learning environment. Inclusion and social justice work is very important to our community.
Position: Outdoor Education Counselor (Seasonal/Part-time)
Counselor responsibilities include:
Running programming and ropes course activities
Monitoring downtime and meals as scheduled
Supporting kitchen staff and clean-up
Attending training days ahead of each season
Supporting bedtime/wake-up as scheduled*
*Counselors can either sleep in a private residence onsite or commute each day. Counselors are not in charge of students overnight.
During trips, daily hours typically run from 7:00 am - 8:00 pm. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included during program days.

April 29th-May 1st (4th grade)
May 4th-5th (1st grade)
May 7th-8th (Kindergarten)
May 14th-15th (3rd grade)
May 18th-20th (5th grade)
May 26th-29th (6th grade)
June 4th-5th (8th grade)
June 15th-18th (summer camp)
June 22nd-26th (summer camp)
MInimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be over 18 and have a High School diploma.
Applicants must be able to pass a background check.
Applicants must have their own transportation.
Applicants should have a strong interest/curiosity in the natural world, camping, outdoor recreation, and environmental stewardship.
